Factors Associated with Self-Care Practices among Pregnant Women at Sicanang Community Health Center

The practice of self-care among pregnant women, including adherence to Antenatal Care (ANC) visits, iron tablet consumption, and fulfillment of nutritional requirements, remains suboptimal and may potentially affect maternal health. Health literacy and spousal support are considered factors that may contribute to improving self-care practices during pregnancy. This study aimed to identify the relationships between health literacy, adherence to ANC visits, and spousal support and self-care practices among pregnant women at Sicanang Community Health Center. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed. The study sample consisted of 50 third-trimester pregnant women selected using consecutive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires that had met validity and reliability requirements and were subsequently analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the chi-square test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that most respondents were aged 20–35 years (80%), had completed junior high school (54%), and were housewives (92%). Statistical analysis demonstrated significant associations between health literacy (p = 0.004), adherence to ANC visits (p = 0.008), and spousal support (p = 0.007) and self-care practices. These findings indicate that improving health literacy, optimizing ANC services, and strengthening the role of husbands in pregnancy support may enhance pregnant women's ability to practice self-care effectively and contribute to better pregnancy outcomes.
